My Top 10 Summer Make-up Tips for the over 40s/50s and Beyond

As we enter the Summer months, our usual make-up products and make-up routine can encounter new challenges - keeping make-up in place in the heat can be a big one! It's the perfect opportunity to update your skincare/make-up routine to ensure you look and feel fresh throughout the longer days. Whether you're enjoying warm weather at home or on holiday, we want to focus on effortless, radiant beauty that enhances your natural glow without melting away in the heat!

In this blog, I'm sharing 10 of my favourite, simple summer make-up tips and summer skin-care recommendations, particularly for the over 40s, 50s and 60s. But many of these make-up and skincare tips will apply to all ages. Let's focus on making the most of the warmth and sunshine, without worrying about your makeup.

10 Summer Makeup Tips and Products

- some crucial dos and don'ts

• DO make sure your moisturiser has been fully absorbed before applying any make-up! This will help it to last longer (use a moisturiser appropriate for your skin type e.g. dry/oily). In particularly warm weather, lightweight products work well rather than rich creams.

• DO start your make-up application feeling cool and fresh – a spritz of Charlotte Tilbury Hydrating Mist or Caudalíe Beauty Elixir is a great way to prepare your skin and relax.

• DON’T forget your SPF - either before or after make-up: try Garnier Ambre Solaire Over Makeup Super UV Protection Mist SPF50 for instant protection.

Summer skincare products

• DO use a make-up primer underneath your foundation/base product – these help to keep the make-up in place and keep the skin hydrated/oil-free depending on your needs. I love Charlotte Tilbury Invisible UV Flawless Poreless Primer with SPF 50.
  

• DON’T use heavy make-up formulas that will melt and smudge – especially in areas of the face that are lined and likely to crease as make-up will move into these areas.

• DO use a lightweight foundation product such as Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser Natural Skin Perfector to even out skin tone and blur protection for an airbrushed finish.  This also contains SPF and skincare ingredients – win-win!

• DO use multi-tasking products such as Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge for Lips and Cheeks for a natural, harmonious look that can be carried around for easy top-ups.  Or apply a little dab of your usual lipstick to the cheeks and blend well for a pop of colour.

• DO use setting spray to set your make-up – these can be a welcome relief when experiencing hot flushes – I recommend Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Setting Spray or Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray

• DO your make-up in natural daylight – take a handheld mirror to the window for best results.
